Touring side Australia Women (AUS-W) achieved a whitewash by beating the hosts New Zealand Women (NZ-W) in a thrilling encounter. By winning the third and the final T20I, the Aussies claimed the series 3-0 and handed their Tasmanian rivals a whitewash.

The visitors were successful in putting up another challenging total at the Sky Stadium, as they finished with 180/4 on the board. This time, Georgia Voll took the attack to the opposition and played a brilliant knock of 75 off 57 deliveries to help the visitors reach the total. Once again, the Kiwi bowlers struggled, failing to make crucial breakthroughs.

Once again, the New Zealand Women’s top order failed to get going. It looked like the whitewash was inevitable until Amelia Kerr and Maddy Green came to the rescue, pulling the Blackcaps out of trouble after they were struggling at 54/4. With 26 needed off 12 and two set batters at the crease, it seemed as though New Zealand Women could avoid the clean sweep.

But an impressive 19th over by Annabel Sutherland changed the game completely. Her brilliant over left the hosts needing 20 in the last over with three wickets in hand. In the end, Australia Women achieved the whitewash, winning the thrilling game by eight runs.

Sutherland and Voll make the difference

Young and upcoming opener Georgia Voll set the stage with her fantastic knock. While most of the Aussie batters were dismissed after decent starts, Voll’s half-century made the difference in the total being set. Her remarkable innings featured eight fours and a six, and she was also named Player of the Match.

Other than Voll, credit also has to be given to Annabel Sutherland, who brought the game back under Australia Women’s control. Sutherland was initially expensive in her first three overs but came back with a phenomenal last over, conceding only six runs and taking three wickets. She was the best bowler in the game, finishing with figures of 4/35 in four overs.
