After scoring a triple Ton in Pakistan months back, Harry Brook does not seem to stop as the batter scored his second Ton in the ongoing series against New Zealand. On Day 1 of the second Test at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, Brook scored a quick 123 off just 115 balls, laced with 11 boundaries and five maximums, to propel his team to a respectable total of 280.

His partnership of 174 runs with Ollie Pope for the fifth wicket was crucial in rebuilding the innings, as England were reeling at 43/4 at one point in time after losing Joe Root. Pope’s was the other notable contribution as he scored 66 off 78 balls with no other English batter even crossed the 20-run mark other than the duo.

The right-handed batter scored a scintillating 171-run knock in the first Test at the Christchurch. Coincidentally, it was him and Pope who had rescued England from the precarious situation in the first Test. The visitors were down to 71/4, but the duo stitched 151 runs to stand to take the team total to 499 runs. They eventually won the game by eight wickets.

BlackCaps too, taste early collapse

Speaking of the second Test, Tom Latham’s decision to bowl first on a green deck proved vital as the Kiwis were all over English batters. Young pacer, Nathan Smith, dazzled with four wickets which included the likes of Jacob Bethell and Joe Root. He was well assisted by another young pace sensation from New Zealand, William O’Rourke, as the right arm pacer plucked three wickets.

But the hosts too had a disastrous start to their innings after bowling out England. They failed to build the partnerships and lost quick wickets. At the end of 21.2 overs, they were 74/4 with Devon Conway, Tom Latham, Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson back in the hut.
