India humiliated Australia by handing them a 295-run defeat in the first Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Ahead of Day 4 of the game, Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood made a controversial comment, suggesting that the batters should have performed better in the first innings as the hosts were bundled for just 104 in response to India’s 150. Hazlewood noted that he was already focusing on the second Test, raising speculations about a possible divide in the Australian dressing room.

Former England and Australia cricketers Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist dissected the matter and the latter concluded that the dressing room might be divided into two halves. However, star batter Travis Head has dismissed all claims, stating that the players are united and nothing has changed after a one-off defeat. The 30-year-old also revealed that all the players were hanging out last night (November 26) and that the media might have “picked the bones out of a comment”.

“I think (people have) picked the bones out of a comment on the back of a poor week, which is fine. All the boys hung out together last night, nothing changed in the way we were as a group. We stuck together, had some good conversations as we always would, win or draw. It’s a pretty level group. No doubt there was a lot of disappointment around the room but definitely no fractions,” Head told 7NEWS.

Australia lost back-to-back Test series at home to India and had huge pressure on them leading to the five-match series. After losing the first game, the pressure will only increase as their position in the World Test Championship (WTC) can also be compromised if they fail to come back to winning ways. The upcoming game will be a Pink-ball Test, in which Australia will have the upper hand as they have never lost one.
