In a dazzling display of cricketing prowess, Suryakumar Yadav’s scintillating century off just 56 deliveries against South Africa in the third T20I drew accolades from the cricketing world. However, a perplexing incident involving the Indian captain left former cricketer Shreevats Goswami disheartened and astonished. Goswami took to social media, expressing his disappointment over the skipper’s actions in the 19th over of the first innings.

As the 19th over reached its climax, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma deftly worked a low full toss from Nandre Burger through deep point, signalling for a run. Surprisingly, Suryakumar, batting on a formidable 98, denied the single. His heroics with the bat were undoubtedly praiseworthy, but the intriguing incident in the 19th over added a layer of drama to India’s innings, leaving fans and experts alike contemplating the captain’s decision. Goswami, clearly taken aback, shared his dismay on Twitter, questioning the star batter’s decision.

“Not sure when the transition took place from cricket being a team game to a individual game ? Just not on !! #shocking.”

SKY’s wicket devoids fuel to India’s onslaught at death

Mr.360’s blazing innings, combined with Rinku Singh’s resurgence in the 18th over, had set the stage for India to reach a total well beyond 200. With India at 186 for three, a score of 215 seemed within reach. However, Burger, who had conceded 37 runs in his initial three overs, made a remarkable comeback in the penultimate over. Dismissing Rinku Singh on the third ball, he conceded only six runs.

It appeared that Suryakumar, discontent with the turn of events in the 19th over, opted to take matters into his own hands. Perhaps seeking redemption, he denied Jitesh the single but couldn’t capitalize on the strategy. Lizaad Williams dismissed the India captain in the very next delivery after he secured his fourth T20I hundred. India faced further setbacks, losing two more wickets in the subsequent four balls, as they strained to surpass the 200-run mark.
