Star Indian batter Virat Kohli recently came forward in agreement with compatriot Rohit Sharma after the latter’s recent comments about the impact player rule in the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024. Kohli urged the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to rethink the rule.

The 35-year-old opined that the impact player rule has destroyed the balance of the game, highlighting how not every bowler is Jasprit Bumrah or Rashid Khan. Despite agreeing that entertainment is an important part of the game, Kohli opined that the bowlers should not have to worry about getting hit for a boundary on every ball.

Recently, Rohit Sharma came forward to scrutinise the impact player rule, highlighting how the rule stops the development of all-rounders in the case of international prospects.

“I agree with Rohit. Entertainment is one aspect of the game but there is no balance, bowlers are feeling like what they should do. I have never experienced anything like it where bowlers think they will concede four or a six on every ball. We are playing a high level of cricket and it should not be that dominant in my opinion. There is a beauty about having an equal balance between bat and ball. Not every team has a Bumrah (Jasprit) or the mystery of Rashid Khan,” Kohli told JioCinema.

I know there is a batsman waiting at No. 8 as well: Kohli

Furthermore, Kohli talked about how he feels very comfortable batting at strike rates above 200, as he knows that there is a batter in the lower order on the side as well due to the Impact Player rule.

“I am telling you, with one extra batter there is a reason I am playing with 200 plus strike rate in the powerplays. I know there is a batsman waiting at No 8 as well. I think it has disrupted the balance and a lot of people are feeling this way not just me,” the New Delhi-born said.
