The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 has got off to a sensational start for cricket fanatics across the globe. But the fanbase that doesn’t seem very impressed at the moment is that of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The Smriti Mandhana-led side faced a shocking defeat in their first match of the tournament as they took on Delhi Capitals in the second match of the tournament. The batting line-up collapsed in the game, and the skipper was the highest run-getter with 35 runs.
Fans hoped that the same would not be the case when the team took on Mumbai Indians in the next match. They were once again met with disappointment as RCB performed even worse than last time.
The team got bundled out for a mere 155 runs after the batters were put under pressure by the relentless bowling attack of Mumbai. Wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh was the highest run-getter for their side this time around with 28 runs to her name. Skipper Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry were once again unable to perform, as they were dismissed at 23 and 13 runs, respectively.
Mumbai Indians thump RCB
After a dominating display in the season opener against Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians thumped RCB to bag their second victory of the season. After RCB gave them a target of 156 to chase in 20 overs, opener Hayley Matthews played a sensational knock as she completed her half-century and made a huge impact for her side. She was well supported by Nat Sciver-Brunt.
After yet another disappointing showing, Smriti Mandhana will be looking for solutions that seriously seem to ail the struggling side. Due to their dismal performance with the bat, fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment. The supporters were quite vocal in voicing their concerns.
