The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is all set to commence in a couple of days’ time. As always, the series has been hyped up due to various underlying and overarching factors. With crucial World Test Championship points at stake and a potential spot in the third successive WTC final for India on the line, it will be intriguing to witness how the senior players from India will guide their side over the five-match Test series.

The childhood coach of ace Indian batter Virat Kohli, Rajkumar Sharma, recently disclosed the advice he had provided Kohli ahead of the high-profile series. He also highlighted the various attributes that he admired in Kohli’s arsenal.

“I said just play a natural game, and nobody can take anything away from you. You should enjoy the game, and that is what he is. He is very relaxed, he is very focused, and he has really worked hard. He has done a lot of preparations for this particular series,” Rajkumar was quoted as saying.

Notably, the former skipper has not been in the best of forms when it comes to his recent form in the red-ball format. In his past 14 innings, Kohli has managed only two half-centuries to his name. He has looked quite scratchy at the crease and has not at all looked his fluent best. Kohli will be aiming to make a resounding comeback while battling it out against Australia.

Kohli’s record against Australia in Tests

Interestingly, Australia has been a happy hunting ground for Kohli as far as the longest format of the game is concerned. In the 25 innings he has featured against the cricketing powerhouses on their home soil, he has registered 1352 runs at an impressive average of 54.08.

Virat Kohli would be aiming to return to his fiery best with the ba. India’s chances of gaining anything from their tour will primarily depend on the manner in which Kohli goes about his expeditions throughout.
