The 51st match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) saw the clash between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 7. The defending champions defeated LSG by 56 runs in a high-scoring encounter.

Following the win, the GT opener, Shubman Gill, who produced a terrific knock said that he was not concerned about missing out on his maiden IPL century. The young opener stated that he would reach the three-figure mark in the GT’s remaining matches. Notably, Gill was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for his magnificent innings. The 23-year-old amassed an unbeaten 94 from 51 deliveries, including two fours and seven sixes, as GT posted a mammoth 227 on the board.

“It was in my mind but I missed out on the bouncer I hit for a single. No worries though, there are 5-6 games left and hopefully, I’ll get my hundred in one of them,” Shubman Gill said during the post-match presentation.

He then spoke about his partner and keeper-batter, Wriddhiman Saha. Gill complimented him for his magnificent knock. Notably, Saha scored 81 runs off 43 balls and had a 142-run opening partnership with Gill before being dismissed by Avesh Khan.

“It was hot but the start we got off to, thanks to Wriddhi bhai, meant it was important for us to continue going with the momentum. It was a good wicket, got a bit difficult as it was a dry wicket and the -was stopping. But with the hard ball, it was coming on nicely. (On mixing power with style and skilful shots) It’s all about practicing, knowing your game, work along with your technique to adapt,” the Fazilka-born cricketer concluded.

Speaking about the match, GT went out all guns blazing from the start and went on to set a gigantic 228-run target for LSG to chase. Meanwhile, in the run chase, the LSG openers, Kyle Mayers (48) and Quinton de Kock (70), provided a solid start for the visitors but failed to chase down the target in the allotted overs. Mohit Sharma was instrumental for GT, as he claimed a four-wicket haul as the Hardik Pandya-led side restricted LSG to 171 to register a 56-run win. With this win, the Gujarat Titans have a strong hold as the table toppers in the IPL points table.
