The third and final ODI of the three-match series between New Zealand Women (NZ-W) and Sri Lanka Women (SL-W) is scheduled to be played at the Saxton Oval in Nelson, on Sunday, March 9. In the second ODI which was played on March 7, the hosts secured a commanding 78-run victory over Sri Lanka.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, New Zealand made 245/7, helped highly by Maddy Green’s strong 100 off 109 balls. She was well-supported by Jess Kerr (38) and Polly Inglis (34*). Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/42.
In response, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 167 in 45.4 overs. Harshitha Samarawickrama top-scored with a noble 58 but fell short of support from the other end. Hannah Rowe led New Zealand’s bowling attack with impressive figures of 4/31, while Eden Carson chipped in with 2/30. Consequently, this win gave the White Ferns aka NZ-W, an unassailable 1-0 lead in the ODI series, with the first ODI having been washed out due to rain.
