New Zealand Women will make their way to India to play a three-match ODI series following the ongoing edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup played in the United Arab Emirates. The three games, scheduled to be played on October 24, 27, and 29, respectively, have been included to be a part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25.
The three-match ODI series will be played in Ahmedabad. Interesingly, the Kiwis were slated to tour India last year itself. However, a crammed itinerary involving a couple of one-off Tests against England and Australia following the conclusion of the ninth installment of the Women’s Big Bash League resulted in the tour being called off.
Bearing in mind that there are crucial Championship points at stake, both teams are expected to field full-strength squads. This will imply that quite a few prominent players from the sides will miss the first couple of rounds of the 10th edition of the WBBL at the minimum. This is due to the WBBL kicking off on the same day on which the second game of the series will be played.
Smriti Mandhan, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Shikha Pandey, Yastika Bhatia, and Dayalan Hemalatha are the players from the Indian squad primed to feature in the upcoming WBBL. India Women are scheduled to play three ODIs against Australia immediately after the WBBL concludes.
India to progress through to Women’s WC 2025 regardless of position on the points table
As for the current standings of India Women and New Zealand Women in the ICC Women’s Championship, the former stands in the 5th slot with 10 wins in 12 games. New Zealand Women are positioned one position beneath the Indians, having played six games more up until now. Due to being the host of the mega-event next year, India is guaranteed qualification in any scenario.
