While both teams are out of the race for the WTC Final, there is still some significance attached to the third Test between New Zealand and England which will be played at Hamilton’s Seddon Park.
England won both the preceding Tests rather comprehensively on the back of centuries from Harry Brook mainly. They will look to cap a mixed year in Test cricket off with a 3-0 win and adding another historical whitewash to the year.
New Zealand, having beaten India in India prior, were left playing catch-up in both Tests and now find themselves needing to avoid the same fate they befell on India in a historic whitewash.
The Test is otherwise notable for being Tim Southee’s last. Southee announced his retirement from Test cricket before the start of the series, saying that the third Test would be his last. Incidentally, it is also at the same venue where he made his Test debut and against the same opposition.
