On Tuesday, July 18, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced a packed summer schedule as they are set to host South Africa and Australia for two Tests each, as part of the new World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. South Africa will tour New Zealand from February 4 to February 17 for the two games, and upon the conclusion of the series, they will host the Australian side for as many Tests starting February 29.
Before hosting South Africa and Australia, the Black Caps will be locking horns with Bangladesh for an ODI and a T20I series in December 2023. They will then take on Pakistan in January for a five-match T20I series, and Australia too for three T20Is. The white-ball games will help the teams prepare for the next edition of the T20 World Cup which is schedule to be played in 2024.
NZC also announced their summer schedule of the Women’s team, as the White Ferns are set to host Pakistan Women for an ODI and a T20I series. Though the dates are yet to be finalised by the board, they will also be hosting England Women for five T20Is and three ODIs.
Commenting on the packed international schedule of the men’s and women’s teams, David White, NZC Chief Executive, said that the schedule will help them increase the game’s popularity in the country. Notably, this will be the first time since 2016 that the Australian side will be touring New Zealand for a Test series.
“It’s a hugely exciting time for cricket in New Zealand, both in terms of the great series and teams on offer this summer, and the ability for fans to either attend the matches first-hand or watch live on TV at no charge. We’ve been able to schedule several back-to-back night matches and day matches to ensure good opportunities for both families and adult patrons, respectively, which we think is good for the game,” White was quoted as saying by ICC.
