India have begun preparations to host the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, which will begin in October. Ahead of the showpiece event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to renovate some of the venues.

The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is one of five venues shortlisted by the BCCI for renovations. The iconic stadium will soon get upgrade work, with new LED floodlights and refurbished hospitality boxes set to be installed. The stadium will host a group stage match as well as the tournament’s semifinal.

The home venue of the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners Mumbai Indians (MI) had hosted seven league matches during the 2023 season. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) said that sealed tenders for the proposed LED Flood Lighting system with DMX controls at Mumbai stadium are invited. The BCCI has yet to begin work, but the purpose behind inviting tenders to replace the floodlights is to ensure that such large efforts are finished quickly.

“Sealed tenders are invited for the proposed LED Flood Lighting system with DMX controls at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The scope of work is described in the tender document,” the Mumbai Cricket Association said on its website along with other necessary details.

MCA would be undertaking the renovation of hospitality boxes at Wankhede Stadium

The Mumbai Cricket Association has also stated that they will be renovating the stadium’s hospitality boxes. MCA also invited applications from reputed organizations for the appointment of Project Management Consultants who meet the eligibility criteria. Furthermore, a few more decisions regarding the renovation works may be made during the MCA’s apex council meeting, which is scheduled for June 30.

“Mumbai Cricket Association would be undertaking the renovation of hospitality boxes at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Association invites applications from reputed organizations to be appointed as Project Management Consultant who fulfill following eligibility criteria,” said another release on their website.
