‘Never complained about jet lag’ – Sri Lankan weightlifter Ransilu Jayathilake takes dig at Hasaranga & Co.

The Sri Lankan cricket team has faced a lot of difficulties with their hectic schedule and logistical arrangements during the ongoing T20 World Cup. Few Sri Lankan players also expressed their frustration in regard to the aforementioned aspects. However, this did not sit well with Sri Lankan weightlifter Ransilu Jayathilake, who gave his own example, explaining how he overcame more severe obstacles while representing his nation.

“23 flying hours..Landed at 7am..Probably walked 2kms around the venue to do the registrations..Just ate a banana and a muffin..Had 45mins to get ready and compete..Had zero supporters….And we never complained about jet-lag coz we just hustle to set the Sri Lanka flag high,” Jayathilake wrote on his social media account.

Namely, captain Wanindu Hasaranga and fellow spinner Maheesh Theekshana were the two cricketers who complained about the hecting scheduling from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Team manager Mahinda Halangoda confirmed that they had written to the ICC about their problems, but conceded that it was too late to make any alterations. The hectic schedule also forced the 2014 champions to cancel some training sessions ahead of their matches.

Sri Lanka on verge of elimination after washout in Florida

Sri Lanka’s hopes of reaching the Super Eight stage suffered a massive dent after their clash against Nepal in Florida on Wednesday, June 12, was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Hasaranga and Co. started their campaign with a six-wicket loss to South Africa in New York. The Lankan Lions went on to face arch-rivals Bangladesh in Dallas and they suffered a two-wicket defeat at the hands of Najmul Hossain Shanto’s men.

A win against Nepal would have helped them stay in contention for a place in the top two in Group D. However, they had to be content with a solitary point and would have to win their last game against the Netherlands next week to entertain hopes of progressing to the next stage.
