My dad left the stadium, went back home after we scored 800 in Multan Test: Rehan Ahmed

English leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed shared an incident when his father, Naeem Ahmed, left the Multan Cricket Stadium during the first Test between England and Pakistan after the Three Lions amassed a whopping 823 in their first innings. Harry Brook smashed his maiden triple century, while Joe Root scored a magnificent 262 to help England make a mockery of Pakistan’s huge first innings total of 556.

Rehan said that his father was not happy after Pakistan could not take advantage of the big score they had put on the board in the first innings. Rehan’s father, who was born in Pakistan, shifted to England in 2001. While Rehan has already played international cricket, his brothers, Raheem and Farhan, are yet to play for the national team.

The Brits went on to win the opening Test by an innings and 47 runs as Pakistan were bowled out for 220 in the second innings. This was Pakistan’s sixth Test defeat on the trot under Shan Masood’s leadership after the southpaw took charge in red-ball cricket last year, replacing Babar Azam.

“In that first Test when we got 800 against Pakistan, my dad left the stadium and went back home, four hours away, because he couldn’t see his team getting anything. He tries to hide that he does not care, but I can tell that he doesn’t want his team to lose. He always wants us to do well, but he doesn’t want us to do that well where his team ends up losing,” Rehan told the BBC Test Match special.

Rehan Ahmed earns a recall

The youngster made his debut during England’s previous Test tour of Pakistan in 2022 when he was just 18 years old. He played the last of his four Tests earlier this year against India. He was with the team during the first two Tests against Pakistan but could not make it to the playing XI.

However, he has been given an opportunity in the decisive third Test, which takes place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium  from October 24. The three-match Test series is tied at 1-1 after Pakistan bounced back to win the second Test in Multan by 152 runs last week.
