Mustafizur Rahman rushed to hospital after being hit on head in nets

Comilla Victorians were in the middle of a training session when veteran pacer Mustafizur Rahman suffered a blow to his head at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday, February 18.

According to reports, a shot from Comilla captain Litton Das struck Mustafizur on the back of his head when he was walking back to his bowling mark. Blood spilled from the left-arm pacer’s head and ice was applied immediately. He was subsequently stretchered off the ground and rushed to the emergency unit of Imperial Hospital for assessment and treatment.

Video footage that has been doing the rounds on social media shows that Mustafizur had his back towards the ball when it hit him. The players and support staff attended to him immediately after the incident.

“During practice, a ball hit directly at the left parietal area (head) of Mustafizur Rahman. There was an open wound at his parietal area and we have worked with compression bandage to stop bleeding and immediately had shifted him to Imperial hospital. After CT scan we are satisfied that he had only external injury. There is no intracranial bleeding. Now surgical team has given him stitches on the open wound,” Zahidul Islam, the team physio, was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, Comilla’s media manager Sohanuzzaman Khan said that the 28-year-old was acting normally when he was about to be taken to the hospital.

“When we were prepping him for the ride to the hospital, he seemed to be acting normally,” Khan told ESPNcricinfo.

The Satkhira-born has had a decent campaign in the ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He has picked up 11 wickets from the nine matches he has played. Mustafizur is averaging 23.91 with the ball and has a strike rate of 15. However, he has been taken for quite a few runs in some of the games and his economy rate of 9.56 accentuates the same.

Comilla are placed at No. 2 on the points table, having won seven and lost two out of the nine games they have played in BPL 2024. They are set to take on a struggling Sylhet Strikers in Chattogram on Monday, February 19.
