May 11, Saturday, marked a significant occasion for 16 budding leg spinners as they received exclusive coaching from Mushtaq Ahmed, the former Pakistani leg-spinner and current spin-bowling coach of Bangladesh, during a special indoor practice session held in Mirpur.

These aspiring leg spinners were identified through an extensive nationwide talent search initiative conducted by the Game Development Department of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Prior to the net session, Mushtaq engaged in a thorough discussion with the group of budding wrist spinners. Subsequently, he closely monitored their bowling performances, offering valuable pointers to optimize their actions as well as various other parameters like grip, load-up, and follow-through.

With a rich background of 14 years in international cricket and impressive statistics of 185 Test and 161 ODI wickets, Mushtaq inspired the young cricketers in a video message relayed by the BCB. He urged them to dedicate themselves fully to their training, highlighting the irreplaceable role of hardwork in achieving success.

“All of you are the future of Bangladesh Cricket. You all have to give your heart and soul in training, nobody can cheat success,” Mushtaq was seen telling the group of boys in a video sent by the BCB.

He also underscored the crucial role of precision in bowling, emphasizing the necessity of delivering each ball with impeccable line and length consistently over an extended duration, such as an entire over and in many cases, even more, to effectively contribute to taking wickets, highlighting the importance of discipline and accuracy in executing bowling strategies.

“You can’t take wickets by bowling good balls, you have to bowl good overs to take wickets. One good ball would never get you a wicket,” Mushtaq advised the young wrist spinners.
