Star Bangladesh keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim was announced as the latest edition to the squad of Fortune Barishal for the upcoming season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024. Rahim was picked by the side in the BPL auction. Rahim was previously a part of Sylhet Sixers, but the side did not retain him, and no other side opted for the keeper batter as a direct signing.
However, Fortune Barishal finally opted for Rahim for the forthcoming season. It is also worth noting that Mushfiqur Rahim was the only local player who belonged to Category A in the auction, with a price cap of TK 80 lakh. As for the other franchises, Rangpur Riders opted for Rony Talukdar as their pick from the player draft.
Furthermore, Mominul Haque and batter Sabbir Rahman were overlooked by the various franchises in the player draft. Haque was a part of Category C with a price cap of Tk 30 lakh, whereas Rahman was a part of Category E with a price cap of Tk 15 lakh.
We have a very balanced side: Mohammad Salahuddin
With the auction for the BPL finished, Comilla Victorians head coach Mohammad Salahuddin took centre stage and talked about how confident they are about defending their title. Furthermore, he also talked of Victorians picking Rahkeem Cornwall in the draft.
“We have a very balanced side and we are hopeful to defend the title, he (Cornwall) will certainly bring balance in our squad and we are delighted to get him in the player’s auction,” Salahuddin was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Yet another talking point could be the addition of Pakistan players. An official from the event came forward to state that they expect the Pakistan players to be available in time for the tournament due to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) being delayed due to elections.
“The Pakistani players might be available for quite some time in BPL if PSL is shifted for election as we know though there is such kind of suggestions the PSL franchises are against it,” an official told Cricbuzz.
