Mumbai Indians' new recruit AM Ghazanfar plays four games in three days

Afghanistan’s rising spinner AM Ghazanfar grabbled spotlight as he was bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 4.80 crore in the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2025 mega auctions. The 6-foot-2-inch-tall spinner is known to generate bounce and sharp turn which will prove lethal for any team who backs the spinners to deliver goods for the team.

Meanwhile, the 18-year-old, has grabbed headlines by playing four games in a span of three days. He featured in two different competitions within 24 hours. On November 29, he was part of Afghanistan’s U19 team in the ACC Under-19 Men’s Asia Cup in Dubai. He then joined Team Abu Dhabi in the T10 League at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. His 1/10 in two overs helped Abu Dhabi clinch an eight-wicket victory over the Northern Warriors.

Ghazanfar rose to fame with his impeccable contribution to Afghanistan A’s historic triumph in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup T20 held in Oman last month. He was the linchpin behind Afghanistan A’s semi-final win against India A as he claimed 2/10. This was Afghanistan’s maiden title in the tournament.

Ghazanfar gets 2300% salary hike for IPL 2025

It is worth noting that Ghazanfar was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024, but the mystery spinner did not play a single match. He assumed the services for KKR at a price of INR 20 Lakhs as he was a replacement for Mujeeb ur Rahman.

Ahead of IPL 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru were interested in claiming rights of the Afghan, but Mumbai Indians eventually signed him for inr 4.80 crore. MI have only two specialist spinners for IPL 2025 in the form of Karn Sharma and Ghazanfar.
