Former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma has only managed 56 runs from five innings at an abysmal average of 11.20. He has looked totally out of sorts, and what is even more concerning is that there hasn’t been a pattern to his dismissals. So, there is no particular area where he can focus on or one shot that he can avoid to get back among the runs. The five-time champions have also had a tough start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. They have suffered four defeats and picked up only two wins from their first six matches.
Former India captain Anjum Chopra feels that Rohit’s struggles with the bat have not allowed Mumbai to set the tone in IPL 2025. She also suggested that the Hardik Pandya-led side could look to push Rohit down the batting order and give opportunities to other batters to open.
“You can be out of form. It’s not a crime to be out of form. The only idea is that it’s not helping, it’s not setting the start that Mumbai Indians were looking for or are looking for right at the top. So, I mean, they have options, they can always look at pushing Rohit Sharma down the order or not utilising all those options are always there,” Anjum was quoted as saying by India Today.

“But it’s not that Rohit Sharma is out of form, it’s just that sometimes you don’t start the tournament on that good a note or that high a note, and it can affect you as a batter or as a player as well. So, it’s part and parcel. It’s like we are watching a tournament as and when it’s an IPL or a World Cup. But tell me, in a World Cup, would you want your best batter to be in form in a World Cup or not? And a lot of energy goes into delivering that kind of performance,” she concluded.
Mumbai Indians returned to winning ways on Sunday, April 13, when they showed a lot of grit and determination to beat Delhi Capitals by 12 runs, ending the Axar Patel-led side’s four-match unbeaten streak in IPL 2025. MI will return to action on Thursday when they host Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium.
