Former India cricketer Zaheer Khan believes that ace pacer Mukesh Kumar will be part of the Indian set up for a while. Notably, after having a couple of brilliant seasons in the domestic circuit, the cricketer managed to break into the international scene and made his debut in the second Test of the ongoing India tour of West Indies.

Notably, on his debut, the cricketer managed to pick up two wickets and was very disciplined with his line and length. Thus, Zaheer is extremely impressed with his skill set and stated that he looked composed and can play for India for a long time.

“He (Mukesh Kumar) looked good. There’s no doubt about it. He had a good outing out there in his first match, was very composed that showed good temperament. And when you’re looking at the bench strength of this Indian team, it’s looking very solid. You can see say that Mukesh Kumar is going to be around in this set up for a while,” Zaheer said while talking to JioCinema.

I still felt that Mukesh needs to add that a yard or to his pace: Zaheer

Even though Mukesh impressed Zaheer with his skill set in the second Test, Zaheer believes that there’s still some room for improvement. He believes that the cricketer needs to work on his pace to be successful in international cricket and can learn more about it from his fellow teammate Mohammed Siraj.

“There is no doubt about that. It’s up to him that how he takes things forward now from here and takes his bowling to the next level. I still felt that he needs to add that a yard or to his pace if he has to be really successful at this level, I can take a leaf out of Siraj’s book and how he has gone about doing his business,” Zaheer added.

Meanwhile, the second Test of the series finished on level terms after rain played a spoilsport. Now, even though India managed to win the series 1-0, this can hurt them in the race to reach the World Test Championship finale.
