Arguably one of the greatest captains of all-time, MS Dhoni accomplished nearly all titles of the sport during his time with the national team and Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise – Chennai Super Kings (CSK). While the 42-year-old’s net worth has skyrocketed over the years, Dhoni’s monthly salary during the 2012 IPL season has left fans shell-shocked as an old appointment letter resurfaced.
According to a document shared by former IPL President Lalit Modi in 2017, MS Dhoni had a monthly salary of INR 43,000. The document stated that the CSK skipper would be appointed as the ‘Vice President’ of India Cements, who were the partners of the Chennai-based franchise. Lalit Modi took to his social media handle to share the document and questioned the contract by the organization.
”It seems only in #india #contempt after contempt continues by the #old #guards of @bcci – How ? My best guess is #northblock. But most #puzzling is this #employment #contract of #MSD – WHY ? he earns 100’s of crores a year will he #agree to be #SRINI’S #employee. bet there are many such contracts,” Lalit Modi captioned on his Instagram handle.
Meanwhile, the 42-year-old recently led his side to win their record-equalling fifth title in the IPL 2023 after triumphing over 2022 winners Gujarat Titans.
While there are a lot of speculations regarding his return to the IPL in the 2024 season, Dhoni gave a subtle hint following the conclusion of the final against Gujarat, as he stated that he would return for another season as a gift for his fans if his body allows him to.
Dhoni is yet to make a decision and it is likely that he could release a statement on his future in the coming months. Meanwhile, CSK will look to bolster their squad with new additions in the upcoming mini-auction which is likely to be held in late December.
