Dhoni wins his fifth IPL title with CSK in IPL 2023
MS Dhoni, who made his international debut in 2004 had quickly established himself as a furious batter but later mellowed as a finisher who would lead his team to victory in challenging circumstances. He is the first skipper in the history of international cricket to win all three major ICC (International Cricket Council) trophies- the 2007 ICC World T20, the 2011 Cricket World Cup, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. He called time on his career on August 15, 2020, but continued to play in the Indian Premier League.
Dhoni recently led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a record-equalling fifth Indian IPL title in the 2023 edition of the tournament. Chennai outplayed the 2022 champions Gujarat Titans in the summit clash contested at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad at the end of May. After the IPL 2023 title win, the CSK skipper indicated that his participation in next year’s tournament will be contingent on his fitness.
