The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) made an interesting call when they released Mohammed Siraj ahead of the much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, which takes place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25.
Siraj started his Indian Premier League (IPL) career at Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after being picked up for INR 2.60 crore in the 2017 auction, from a base price of INR 20 lakh. He impressed in his debut season, picking up 10 wickets in six matches. The right-arm seamer joined RCB for INR 2.20 crore at the IPL 2018 mega auction and spent seven seasons at the popular franchise.
His best performance came in the 2023 edition of the tournament when he picked up 19 wickets from 14 matches at an average of 19.79 and a strike rate of 15.79. However, last season, the Hyderabad seamer picked up 15 wickets from 14 games at an average of 33.07 and a strike rate of 21.60. His economy rate also went up to a disappointing 9.19.
However, Siraj was part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad earlier this year and bowled some economical spells in the first half of the tournament before being replaced by Kuldeep Yadav in the business end. The 30-year-old has not been at his best in recent times across formats but his experience can be an asset for any franchise.
