Every cricket fanatic in the world is looking forward to the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. Team India will be touring Australia for the upcoming series, and a lot of anticipation is building towards it as India has won their last two outings in Australia.

The side will be aiming to make it a hat trick, but the Aussies will be looking to make the assignment as tough as possible for India. The two sides last faced off in a Test match at the final of the World Test Championship, where Australia were victorious.

With India looking to make it a hat trick, the side is gearing up and preparing their strongest possible squad for the series. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been given a rest ever since the T20 World Cup, but Mohammed Shami has yet to feature for the side. Shami last played for India in the ODI World Cup 2023, and his return date is yet to be decided.

However, the BCCI’s secretary, Jay Shah, recently came forward and expressed his confidence that Shami will return in time for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and how much the side needs him in Australia.

“Our team is already well-prepared. We have rested Jasprit Bumrah for a while now. Mohammad Shami is expected to be fit too. This is an experienced Indian side now. Seniors like Rohit (Sharma) and (Virat) Kohli are fit,” Jay Shah told The Times of India.

“Shami will be there (in Australia) because he is experienced, and we need him in Australia,” he added.

Shami will have to prove his fitness in the Ranji Trophy: Snehasish Ganguly

Furthermore, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly also talked about Shami’s return to international cricket. He opined that before making his return, he will have to prove his fitness in the Ranji Trophy. “He (Shami) wants to be on that tour. But he has to play Ranji Trophy to prove himself,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by News18.
