Mitchell Marsh is set to represent Perth Scorchers in their upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 clash against Melbourne Renegades at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Tuesday, January 7. The seam-bowling all-rounder will return to the league after almost a three-year hiatus.
Marsh played his last BBL game against Sydney Sixers in January 2022. He missed the following season due to an ankle injury Marsh returned to Australia’s Test side during the Ashes in 2023. He became a regular starter before being recently dropped from for the fifth Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) last week.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Jhye Richardson has also been made available for a BBL return having been part of the Test side for the last two games in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Availability of other Test players will be confirmed in the coming days. However, the in-form Travis Head has all but confirmed he won’t be featuring for Adelaide Strikers.

“I’m wrecked. I don’t know what I’m going to do in the next few days but we’ve got 10 or 12 days off now before we go to Sri Lanka and I’m going to use every little bit of that,” Head told Fox Cricket at the SCG on Sunday.
Marsh returned to Perth on Monday after Australia reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by beating India in the fifth and final Test match. He was replaced by Beau Webster, who had an impressive outing with the bat and ball on his Test debut in Sydney. Marsh could play till the end of the season for Perth if he doesn’t get picked in Australia’s squad for their upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
Webster could be available for Melbourne Stars’ next game against Sydney Sixers on Thursday and also the return derby against Renegades on January 12. Meanwhile, Scott Boland, who plays for Melbourne Stars, may be given a breather after his workload in the final two Tests against India.
