Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting recently came forward and hinted at his return to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ponting parted ways with IPL franchise Delhi Capitals after the 2024 season, and after England’s recent series win against Sri Lanka, he revealed that he has been getting some offers.
Ricky Ponting had been with Delhi Capitals for several years but could not win a title with them. He did help the side reach the summit clash in 2020 but failed to go all the way. He took center stage and revealed that he was no longer interested in long coaching stints, especially in international cricket. He just wanted to spend as much time as possible with his family.
“An international role is not where I am right now. The last two years have been a lot busier than I wanted. This year I have coached in the MLC as well which was a lot of fun. I’ll continue to do that. That was just three and a half weeks,” Ponting said on the Sky Sports podcast.

“I finished up with DC as well so there might be a few other opportunities coming in the IPL in the next few weeks. We’ll see,” he further added.
It is worth noting that Ricky Ponting was called one of the potential successors to Rahul Dravid as the head coach of India. However, that did not come to fruition, as Gautam Gambhir was eventually appointed.
Furthermore, Ponting recently served as the coach of Washington Freedom in the MLC (Major League Cricket). The former skipper was roped in after Freedom’s head coach Greg Shipperd stepped down from his position following the inaugural season in 2023.
Currently, out of a job, Ponting hinted towards a return to the IPL, but the fans are yet to know where the former Australia cricketer will end up, given that he is offered a role as the head coach of a franchise.
