With the Test series between Australia and Pakistan underway, the visitors have been hard at work in preparation to take on the Pat Cummins-led side. The first Test is being played at the Optus Stadium in Perth, and with the game, it was something completely different that caught the eyes of the fans.

Ahead of the first Test, former English cricketer Michael Vaughan and Pakistan’s team director Mohammad Hafeez posed for a selfie together. This combination of players was something new for the fans, as they never expected Vaughan and Hafeez to post a picture together.

A few weeks ago, both former cricketers shared opposing views about ace Indian batter Virat Kohli and the pacing of his innings in the ODI World Cup 2023. While Hafeez opined that Kohli was playing slowly and for himself, Vaughan was quick to jump to his defence on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Hafeez talked of how Kohli prioritised his milestone in India’s clash against South Africa, with Vaughan even coming forward to troll the former Pakistan cricketer for falling victim to Kohli’s bowling at one stage in his career, their argument on X garnered major traction from the fans.

However, posting the selfie together, “Great to catch up with @MHafeez22 in #Perth,” Vaughan captioned the post.

Pakistan aim to limit Australia at the Optus Stadium

After the warm-up game and weeks of preparation, Australia and Pakistan finally kicked off their Test series. Taking on each other in Perth, the Shan Masood-led side got off to a subpar start as they lost the toss and had to field first.

However, this could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Pakistan. Opting for a pacer-friendly lineup and the absence of a specialist spinner, Pakistan will hope for good performances from ace pacer Shaheen Afridi and debutants Aamir Jamal and Khurram Shahzad.

It could be interesting to see how the new captaincy brings about a change in Pakistan’s mindset when taking on the defending champions of the World Test Championship.
