Ace pacer Mayank Yadav played just four matches for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024 and picked up seven wickets at an economy rate of 6.98. In his debut match, he picked up a three-fer against Punjab Kings, which was highly impressive as the 22-year-old was consistently bowling over 150 kmph. He was deemed to be the next big star as far as pace bowling is concerned but unfortunately, a lower abdominal strain ruled him out of the competition and he is yet to play a game ever since.

BCCI understands his worth and keeping a close eye on his development, as the Delhi-born cricketer is currently training at the National Cricket Academy. He was expected to feature in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, slated to begin on September 5 but the BCCI officials felt that the youngster is not ready yet, which is why, he was dropped from the plans.

Sonnet club coach, Devendra Sharma, who mentored Mayank for many years recently shared an update on the pacer. He stated that the pacer bowls in the morning and follows it up with rehab sessions and added that he has asked to stay out of red-ball cricket for the moment as it might affect him.

“Like in the morning, he is made to bowl, followed by rehab session and exercise routine. After this, he again does his bowling in the nets. All of this is something which he is doing there on a daily basis, as per what he told me,” Devendra was quoted as saying by Times of India.

“He bowls eight-ten overs daily, and I did ask him why he wasn’t named in Duleep Trophy squads. To this, Mayank replied, ‘Sir, I have been told not to go into it as I can’t put too much load on my body and concentrate on white-ball cricket for now’,” he added.

Mayank was recently spotted bowling to Yashasvi Jaiswal and other Duleep Trophy-bound players in the NCA nets. If everything goes well, he can eye for a comeback in the domestic season.
