22-year-old star India pacer Mayank Yadav has had a roller coaster start to his international career. Rising to fame from his brief outing with Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, Mayank Yadav recently made his India debut, playing against Bangladesh.
Having recovered from a side strain and abdominal injury after his stint in the IPL, his performances led to the BCCI looking to include him in the squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series 2024-25.
After the series against Bangladesh, the BCCI monitored Mayank Yadav’s performances, and he was set to join India’s squad for the Australia tour as one of the traveling reserves. However, the youngster is yet again out injured. Recently, Mayank’s personal coach, Devendra Sharma, came forward and talked about Mayank’s situation.

“It’s not that Mayank (currently at the BCCI Centre of Excellence on the outskirts of Bengaluru) has sustained a fresh injury, but he has been advised not to play now as they’re looking to have him back for the England ODIs (in January 2025),” Devendra Sharma was quoted as saying by Telegraph India.
Furthermore, a BCCI official also revealed the nature of Mayank Yadav’s injury problems. They opined that it could be the case of a stress fracture in his back as well.
“There appears to be some problem with his back… Could also be a case of stress fracture. As per the earlier prescription from the NCA (National Cricket Academy), he could play in the Ranji Trophy from its fourth or fifth round, but that’s no longer possible now. He’s again out for quite some time,” the official said.
It is worth noting that India will kick off their series against Australia in Perth. Both sides will lock horns in the first Test on November 22 and after the series loss against New Zealand, the Rohit Sharma-led side will be desperate to improve.
