Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on each other in the third match of the IPL 2025. MA Chidambaram Stadium will host the match on March 23 at 7:30 PM (IST). CSK and MI are jointly the most successful teams in the IPL history with five titles each to their name. They will be hoping to improve their record in the IPL 2025.
Both CSK and MI won all their five titles under the leadership of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma respectively. In 2024, both CSK and MI witnessed a change in direction, as Hardik Pandya and Ruturaj Gaikwad were named their new captains respectively. In IPL 2024, both CSK and MI failed to qualify for the playoffs. They have everything it takes to turn things around in 2025.

Both CSK and MI had a great auction and got what they wanted. While MI retained their core players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav along with Tilak Varma, CSK retained the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, and MS Dhoni.
CSK and MI have a good squad for the IPL 2025 and start as two of the favourites to win the title. Both teams will play their first match of the season against each other in the contest of arch-rivals. MI haven’t won the first match of the season in a long time and will hope to change it in 2025. CSK would love to hold their fortress strong to start their season on a good note.

Pitch Report
MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai has traditionally offered slow and sluggish surfaces in the IPL. Scoring a truckload of runs cannot be associated with the venue. Even in a season like 2024, which witnessed a run-fest in the majority of the venues, Chepauk had something in it for the pacers early in the innings and for the spinners with the progression of the match.
Since it is the start of the season, the wicket is likely to be good for batting. If not for dew, batting first might be a fine decision, as the wicket could slow down. One should not be surprised if the chasing team records the highest-ever run chase in the history of the IPL at the venue. It need not be the case for the rest of the tournament.
