Mashrafe Mortaza, 90 other accused of inciting violence during Bangladesh protests

Political unrest in Bangladesh shifted the dynamics of the country. The public property was destroyed, and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled from the country as several killings cast a shadow on the country’s cricketing developments. Former Bangladesh skipper, who was associated with the government in question did not visit the country during the riots and he was accused of inciting killings.

In a fresh development, former Bangladesh all-rounder, Mashrafe Mortaza is also been accused of inciting violence during the student protests. Along with him, his father and 90 other individuals have been accused of charges. According to reports from bdcrimetime.com, Narail’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Sheikh Mustafa Al-Muzahidur Rahman, filed the case at the Narail Sadar police station.

Mortaza announced his retirement from international cricket and joined the ranks of, now absconded, PM Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League in 2018. He was later, elected as a Member of Parliament from the Narail-2 constituency. Moreover, due to this link, his house was set on fire by the protesters on 6 August, when the outrage was at its peak.

Bangladesh will be in India for three-match Test series 

The former Bangladesh captain has played 220 ODIs and 54 T20Is. Moreover, he has led Bangladesh in the highest number of games (117) across formats. He has featured in 36 Tests and has managed to pluck 390 wickets and scored 2,955 runs.

Speaking of Bangladesh, they won the two-match Test series in Pakistan and created history by defeating Pakistan for the first time in Tests. They are carrying the 2-0-win momentum and will face India in the first Test starting on September 19 in Chennai.
