Aakash Chopra anticipates that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will transform the upcoming 2023 World Cup into a remarkable spectacle by implementing stadium upgrades to enhance the spectator experience.

The highly anticipated 13th edition of the ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place from October 5 to November 19 in India, with matches spread across 10 venues. Chopra shared his insights on the BCCI’s recent Apex Council Meeting, shedding light on the decisions made by the board.

Expressing the importance of stadium upgrades, Chopra spoke on the allocation of funds for the enhancement of facilities. With the World Cup returning to India after a significant gap, Chopra urged the need to create an enjoyable and visually appealing experience for the viewers. He outlined certain crucial aspects that should be addressed, focusing on providing accessibility and comfort to all spectators.

“Money will be allotted for stadium upgradations. I think 50 crore rupees per venue. Let’s make this World Cup a wonderful spectacle, which we all expect, as it has come to India after a long time. It won’t be enjoyable if we don’t make the viewer experience beautiful,” Chopra said in a video shared on his YouTube channel.

You need to make a good experience for specially-abled people: Chopra

Chopra emphasized the significance of making stadiums accessible for specially-abled individuals by implementing ramps. He stressed the need to prioritize their experience and ensure inclusivity. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of maintaining clean and well-equipped washrooms, focusing on the need for top-notch sanitation facilities.

Considering the intense heat during afternoon matches, Chopra suggested that all stadiums should have roofs to shield spectators from the sun’s scorching rays. Furthermore, he called for the provision of pure and free drinking water to enhance the overall experience for attendees.

“What are the important things that should be done in my opinion? Specially-abled people, you need to make ramps for them. I will say you need to make a good experience for them. I feel the second thing required is just the washrooms and sanitation and cleanliness. You have to make it absolutely top-notch,” he added.

By undertaking these upgrades and improvements, the BCCI can organise a truly memorable World Cup, catering to the needs and comfort of the spectators. With careful attention to accessibility, hygiene, and comfort, the BCCI can transform the upcoming World Cup into an unforgettable spectacle that will be cherished by fans worldwide.
