Karnataka’s state league, Maharaja Trophy 2024 has got a game it can boast of for years to come. The league, which started in 2022, had no Super Over game until the August 23, 2024 game between Bengaluru Blasters and Hubli Tigers at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The 17th game of the 2024 season saw three Super Overs being bowled to decide the winner.

Chasing the target of 165 put by the Tigers, the Blasters needed just two runs in five balls with three wickets at their disposal. Tigers conceded just two runs in five balls and claimed the wicket on the last ball to tie the game.

Super Over 1

Blasters managed 10 runs in the Super Over and it all boiled down to Lavish Kaushal defending the 10 runs. He did so by conceding eight runs off the first five deliveries. With Tigers requiring two off the final ball, Manish Pandey was run out at the keeper’s end, eying for a second run, as Lavish turned a dropped catch into a run-out. The scores were at level and a second Super Over was on the cards.

Super Over 2

Gnaneshwar Naveen bowled some tight lines as the Tigers could not score a single boundary in the Super Over. Courtesy of Manish Pandey’s two triple runs, the Tigers posted eight runs. Vidwath Kaverappa held his nerve for the Tigers after conceding a boundary off the first ball and Blasters managed just four of the next five deliveries. A Third Super Over awaited.
