‘Looked like rehearsal for Test match’ – Kris Srikkanth bashes CSK for poor batting approach in IPL 2025

'Looked like rehearsal for Test match' - Kris Srikkanth bashes CSK for poor batting approach in IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings faced a shambolic defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, which led to massive criticism from fans and experts alike. The loss at Chepauk was after KKR won the toss and opted to bowl first. The CSK batting unit reached 103 for the loss of nine wickets at the end of 20 overs, which was also their lowest-ever total at the ground. Former cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth also felt that the batting looked awful.

KKR chased down the target within just 10.1 overs, losing a couple of wickets in the process, to go third on the table. Srikkanth feels that KKR completely outplayed CSK at home, and that the latter’s unit is completely playing on past nostalgia, when a lot of changes in present are required. The former national selector also advised the side to try and rope in someone like Prithvi Shaw as the top order has failed to put up a show.

“One of CSK’s worst defeats ever. Powerplay batting looked like a rehearsal for a test match. Whole XI feels like it’s running on nostalgia. Time to think out of the box, why not try some unsold players like Prithvi Shaw at this point? Would you try it? , even chaos is a strategy?” he wrote on social media.

Alarm bells ring for Dhoni & Co

After a captaincy handover to MS Dhoni, a lot of people believed that it will lead to a change in fortunes, however, the five-time champions failed to return to winning ways. In fact, this was also their worst loss of the season, having already lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals among others previously. They are currently languishing at ninth on the IPL 2025 Points Table.

The next game for Dhoni & Co. will now be against Lucknow Super Giants, which will be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium on April 14. From here on, almost every game is a must win for MS Dhoni-led side, if they are to qualify for the playoffs.
