The Asia Cup 2023 is up and running as co-hosts Pakistan kickstarted the proceedings with a dominating win against debutants Nepal in the curtain raiser in Multan. On the other hand, Sri Lanka, who are jointly hosting the event along with Pakistan, too began their campaign with a win in a low-scoring affair against Bangladesh.

The six teams in the fray – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal – have been split into two groups. While Group A comprises of India, Pakistan and Nepal, Group B consists of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.

The top two highest placed teams of each group will progress to the Super Four stage. The final four teams will play each other once in a single-round robin fashion and the two sides with the most points will make it to the summit clash of the Continental Cup.

As many as 13 matches will be played in the Asia Cup 2023. The event will culminate with the summit clash, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 17.

It is worth mentioning that the ACC accepted Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) hybrid model to jointly host the event. With this, Pakistan get to host four fixtures whereas co-hosts Sri Lanka will be the host venue for as many as nine fixtures.

Considering that the event is also being played in the Island nation, the possibility of showers looms large. As per the weather conditions in Sri Lanka, the Balagolla storm is likely to make its presence felt during the ACC event and could interrupt play in a few matches.
