Laura Wolvaardt and Marco Jansen clinch top honours at CSA awards

Captain Laura Wolvaardt has been named as women’s player of the year at the Cricket South Africa awards, held on Thursday, September 6. The 25-year-old finished as the leading run-scorer for South Africa Women in the 2023-24 season in ODIs and T20Is and also registered a century in the Test against India in Chennai.

Apart from the Player of the Year award, Wolvaardt also bagged four other awards namely: Women’s T20 International Player of the Year, One-Day International Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and finally the Fans’ Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, Proteas all-rounder Marco Jansen bagged the men’s Player of the Year. The youngster played a vital part in helping South Africa qualify for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023, in which, the cricketer picked up 17 wickets.

Quinton de Kock has been named ODI Player of the Year. He scored 594 runs in the ODI World Cup, which was the most by a South African international in the tournament. Reeza Hendricks, on the other hand, bagged the T20 Player of the Year and Keshav Maharaj was voted Players’ Player of the Year.

David Bedingham and Eliz-Mari Marx were named the International Men’s Newcomer of the Year and International Women’s Newcomer of the Year, respectively.

Marizanne Kapp wins Best Ball of the Season award

All-rounder Marizanne Kapp was awarded the best ball of the season award. Her pearler to dismiss Beth Mooney in South Africa’s first ODI against Australia helped the cricketer earn the award. Meanwhile, The Makhaya Ntini Power of Cricket Award was given to Masabata Klaas. The cricketer took a three-year break due to motherhood and recently made her storied comeback in the game.

The veteran pacer played 75 ODIs, 65 T20Is, and two Test matches for the country. She was in the scheme of things for the T20 World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 3, but failed to make it to the 15-member squad.
