Last week, we were apparently the worst Test team ever; this week, we finished on day three: Travis Head

Last week, we were apparently the worst Test team ever; this week, we finished on day three: Travis Head

Australia suffered a humiliating 295-run defeat in the first Test against India in Perth. Plenty of questions were raised, especially about the batting department after Josh Hazlewood allegedly criticized the unit for getting bundled for 104 runs in the first innings. In the second game, the hosts improved significantly, having scored 337 runs in the first innings. Travis Head made the difference, scoring 140 runs off 141 deliveries, while Marnus Labuschagne supported him well, scoring 64. They secured a lead of 157 runs and later bundled the visitors for 175 runs in the second innings.

The Pat Cummins-led side chased 19 runs comfortably, marking a remarkable comeback.

Head was adjudged the Player of the Match after the game. In the presentation ceremony, the flamboyant batter opened up on his knock and mentioned that it was nice to get into the groove after having a difficult time in Test cricket earlier in the year. Speaking on the same, Head mentioned that he spent hours analyzing and chatting with people about how to get better, and that worked for him against India.

“It’s nice to be in the runs and help the team. There’s a lot of talk during the week, I got back to doing what I know the best that’s hitting lots and lots of cricket balls, looking at the footage where I felt like I was falling short. The selection policy and selection process with this team is very consistent. For me, it was about staying true to myself, true to how I got here as a player. Spent hours thinking about it, spoke to different people and I was able to find my feet in the innings,” Head said.

The cricketer also added about his experience of playing in Adelaide, which is also his home ground, and reminded that after the last game, everyone wrote them off after a poor show but they were capable enough to finish the second Test within three days.

“Always good (to play in Brisbane). The series is 1-1. Last week, we lost the Test match and we were apparently the worst Test team ever. This week, we finished on day three. It’s nice that there’s so much talk about the game,” the 30-year-old added.
