Rahul to feature as specialist batter during England Tests
India’s ace batter will next be seen in action at the five-match series against England. It is worthy of mentioning that Rahul kept wickets on India’s recent tour to South Africa for the two-match series against the Proteas. However, during a press conference head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that only a specialist wicketkeeper will be handed the gloves, as the long series requires employing regular keepers KS Bharat or Dhruv Jurel, for the job.
Thus, this allows Rahul the Karnataka batter to focus more on his batting, as he will have a significant role to play for the hosts, especially in Virat Kohli’s absence, who is slated to be unavailable for the Hyderabad and Vizag Tests. This hints at Rahul also being promoted to bat at no. 4, which needs to be filled with no Kohli around. The first game will begin on January 25 in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, and Rahul will be hoping to make the series a memorable one.
