New Zealand and England are facing off in the second Test at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, whereas, India took on Australia at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on December 6. Meanwhile, in a peculiar instance, Kiwi batter Kane Williamson and India’s wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul had all the reasons to smile.

In the greatest of coincidences, the duo survived a dismissal courtesy of no balls. Williamson survived off Brydon Carse in the 13th over of Day 1 as a fuller delivery dislodged the bails of his off stump before replays showed Carse had overstepped.

Barely 15 minutes later, Rahul, batting in Adelaide, edged the back-of-a-length delivery from Scott Boland to the keeper in the seventh over of the Day 1. The right-handed batter commenced a slow walk to the dressing room. As fate would have it, he was called back by the umpires after replays showed the Boland too crossed the popping crease. It is also worth noting that the replays showed no spike when the ball passed the bat.

The incidents within span of minutes caught former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop’s attention and he was quick to express his surprise through post. He was the first one to point this observation and the social media was abuzz drawing parallels over this unusual incident.

“Can’t believe that Kane Williamson gets bowled off a Brydon Carse no-ball. 15 minutes later across Oceania, KL Rahul gets caught behind off a Scott Boland no-ball,” Bishop posted on his X account.
