Kolkata Knight Riders broke the bank for Venkatesh Iyer, acquiring his services for a whopping INR 23.75 crore in the IPL 2025 mega-auction. They managed to get back Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Manish Pandey, Anukul Roy, and Vaibhav Arora from their title-winning squad in 2024 and added experience by signing Ajinkya Rahane, Quinton de Kock, Moeen Ali, Rovman Powell, and Anrich Nortje among others in the auction.
They bid to get back Shreyas Iyer as well, but the IPL 2024 winning skipper bagged a massive deal worth INR 26.75 crore as he moved to Punjab Kings. With that, KKR is now looking for a new captain. In the 2023 edition, Nitish Rana led the side and in the last season, Shreyas did a commendable job as the Knight Riders won their third title in history.

CEO Venky Mysore meanwhile confirmed that the franchise is yet to zero in on a captain for the next season. He mentioned that the think tank and the shareholders will sit down and take stock and a decision will be made after multiple discussions. He also revealed that he is content with the team that they managed to assemble.
“To be honest, we have to sit down and take stock. Sometimes what happens is, after you’ve done all of these things, you just have to sit down, reflect, and look at the whole thing. There are stakeholders and parts of the think tank won’t be here. So we’ll all sit down and have a proper chat about that, and I’m sure a proper decision will be made,” Mysore told the broadcasters.
“I am very, very happy. I think auctions are always up and down and nerve-wracking. But I think the whole team did an amazing job of sticking to the plan. That’s the trick, I always feel. But in the end, the way we completed the squad and checked all the boxes that we wanted to, I am extremely happy,” Mysore added.
