Former India cricketer Kirti Azad recently announced his intention to run for the president’s post of the DDCA (Delhi & District Cricket Association). He will be filing his candidacy on November 19, and made the promise to promote club cricket by opening new academies in nine different places.

It is worth noting that the DDCA elections will take place from December 13–15, and the elections will be for all members of the apex council, which includes five office bearers and seven directors. Furthermore, the announcement of the result will be made on December 16.

“I was going to do it on the 14th, but I will do it on the 19th. It’s because I have to go to my constituency due to some urgency,” Kirti Azad was quoted as saying by News18.

“I plan to start nine academics in nine different places. Like, take the ground and have a contract saying that we’ll maintain the ground. Plus, we’ll pay your groundsman and give us your ground. It’s because now you have so many private academies,” he added.

Furthermore, Azad also revealed that he would be waiting for his competition to reveal the plans that they have in place before he reveals his own upon filing the nomination.

“I’m waiting for others to say something—like, what do they write? What are they going to talk about? So, I’m just waiting for it. After all, they promised a lot in the last elections. So, obviously, they’re going to give the report card,” Azad said.

He also revealed that one of his plans will aim to improve promotion of the sport at the school, university, and club levels. He opined that it was extremely necessary to nurture and grow the next generation of cricketers that come from Delhi.

“Well, yes, we have to promote club cricket. We have so many of them coming from outside and taking admission in colleges, then taking residences and qualifying to play for Delhi. But where is the talent that was originally from Delhi getting into teams? Like we had superb, talented players in my playing time,” Azad added.
