King Kohli reigns again - Virat smashes 13,000 T20 runs in epic IPL 2025 clash vs MI

Star batter Virat Kohli became the first Indian batter to complete 13,000 runs in T20 cricket, adding another milestone to his illustrious career. The moment came during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s clash against Mumbai Indians in Match 20 of IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium.

The veteran batter reached the milestone with his trademark cover drive for four off Trent Boult in the third over. Kohli became only the fifth batter in men’s T20 history to breach the 13,000-run mark, joining the company that includes Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, Shoaib Malik, and Kieron Pollard. Notably, he achieved the feat in just 386 innings from 403 T20 matches, making him the second-fastest after Gayle, who did it in 381 innings.

Furthermore, the Delhi-born also brought up another milestone during his innings of smashing 100 T20 fours. Kohli, who has been a stalwart in T20 cricket for nearly two decades, has over 8,000 runs in the Indian Premier League, making him the tournament’s highest run-getter by a mile.

No other player has crossed the 8,000-run barrier in the league’s history. His IPL record includes 8 centuries, the most in the tournament, across 256 matches, all for RCB. In international T20s, Kohli scored 4,188 runs from 125 matches before announcing his retirement in 2024, following India’s ICC T20 World Cup win. In the ongoing game against MI, he brought up a fifty in 29 balls.

Moreover, Kohli had recently completed 400 T20 matches during RCB’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025 opener. He became the first Indian cricketer to achieve the feat of playing 400 T20s, 100 Test matches, and 300 ODIs.
