Legendary England cricketer Kevin Pietersen took a brutal dig at London Mayor Sadiq Khan over the rising crime rates in the city. Pietersen, known for his straightforward nature, pointed out the surge in thefts of high-value items, often involving celebrities as targets. Notably, Pietersen and his family split their time between residences near Windsor, outside London, and another home in his native South Africa.

Pietersen took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle to share a photo revealing that he had to remove his costly watch and wedding ring before heading to London. Notably, the former cricketer’s precautionary measure sparked playful banter from fans and followers. The photo has gone viral on social media, with some expressing support for his vigilance, while others deemed it ‘bizzare’.

“Gotta go into London today. NO WATCH and a plastic ring! Congrats, @SadiqKhan !” Pietersen wrote on X.

Kevin Pietersen is widely regarded as one of the finest batters England has ever produced. Though born in South Africa, with an English mother, he represented England in 104 Test matches from 2005 to 2014, as well as 136 ODIs spanning 2004 to 2013. Despite briefly captaining both the Test and ODI teams, he stepped down from the role following a dispute with the coach. Known for his aggressive approach on the field, the 43-year-old’s playing style occasionally led to friction with opponents as well as his teammates.

In addition, he is one of the quickest batters to reach 1,000 ODI runs. He also holds the distinction of being the fastest player to surpass the 2,000-run mark in the 50-over format. His exceptional start in Test cricket is evidenced by his second-highest run total in the first 25 Tests, trailing only the legendary Sir Don Bradman of Australia. For his contributions to English cricket, he was honored by the English and Wales Cricket Board on the occasion of England’s 1000th Test in August 2018 by including him in the country’s greatest Test XI.
