JP Duminy steps down as batting coach of South Africa's white-ball team

JP Duminy has decided to step down from his role as the batting coach of the South African team in white-ball formats on Friday, December 6. The former South African middle-order batter, who’s been associated with the team since March 2023, has decided to end his association due to personal reasons.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed Duminy’s resignation in a statement and revealed that it is on the lookout for his replacement. The 40-year-old was a part of the coaching staff for the ODI World Cup 2023 and the T20 World Cup 2024 where the Rainbow Nation finished in the semi-final and finals, respectively.

CSA expressed their gratitude to Duminy for his invaluable contributions as he worked closely with the South African batters and helped them hone their skills. The cricket board also wished him the best in his future endeavors.

“Cricket South Africa (CSA) announces that JP Duminy has stepped down from his role as the white-ball batting coach with immediate effect, following a mutual agreement with CSA based on personal reasons. His contributions to the growth and development of the batting department within the national white-ball setup have been invaluable,” wrote CSA on their X account.

“CSA wishes Duminy all the best in his future endeavors and thanks him for his contributions to the Proteas Men’s team during his tenure. A process to identify a suitable replacement is currently underway, and the appointment of a new white-ball batting coach will be announced in due course,” he added.

Duminy represented South Africa for over a decade

Quite commendably, the former South Africa all rounder, JP Duminy, spent almost 12 years in international cricket, with 46 Tests, 199 ODIs, and 81 T20Is under his belt. He scored 2,103, 5,117, and 1,934 runs in the three formats, respectively. Duminy was also a handful with his off-break bowling as he picked up 42, 69, and 21 wickets in Tests, ODIs, and T20I formats.

South Africa are currently playing the second and final Test against Sri Lanka in Gqeberha. The Proteas have a multi-format series lined up against Pakistan at home. The two cricketing powerhouses will compete in three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests. The first T20I takes place at Kingsmead, Durban on Tuesday, December 10.
