The current BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Secretary, Jay Shah, was elected as the new Chairman of the apex cricket governing body ICC (International Cricket Council) and the veteran will assume the chair officially on December 1. There are immense speculations around the person to hold the Secretary position in the absence of Shah. The BCCI Apex Council meeting is scheduled to be held on September 25 and the reports suggested that the agenda for the next Secretary will not be discussed.

Notably, Jay Shah will head the 93rd Annual General Meeting in Bengaluru as the Secretary until his official induction into the ICC. Hence, as reported by the PTI, Shah is expected to continue as the Secretary until November. For the unversed, Shah was elected as the Chairman of the ICC on August 27, the 35-year-old replaced the former chairman Greg Barclay to become the youngest chairman in the history of the ICC.

Speaking of the AGM meeting, the council will discuss the ongoing construction of the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The city has been the hub for cricketers who visit NCA for over two decades now. The meeting will also include discussions on the ongoing non-payment of dues case of Byjus. The Ed-tech firm had previously sponsored the Indian team jersey with a three-year deal signed in 2019.

The contract was extended to one year after 2021 and the controversy erupted as the partnership ceded over not paying the dues from October 2022 to March 2023. The matter escalated to court and the dust seemed to have settled. Byjus had ended its contract with BCCI in March, last year.
