Jay Shah lands in Brisbane for potential Olympics meeting
The freshly-inducted chairperson of the International Cricket Council, Jay Shah, has landed in Brisbane. According to reports, the former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India touched down in Australia a few hours back on a Singapore Airlines flight.
The joint secretary of the BCCI, Devajit Saikia, has accompanied Shah. Both the dignitaries have been checked into Hotel Sofitel, the same place where the India’s Test team is residing. As per a Cricbuzz report, Shah will attend a meeting regarding the 2032 Summer Olympics, which will take place in Brisbane. In addition, Shah will also attend the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test, scheduled to commence at the Gabba on December 14, 2024.
The significance of Shah’s visit Down Under is immeasurable, even as far as Indian cricket is concerned. Shah, who relinquished his position with the BCCI recently, now holds an independent position at the ICC. The global administrative body is battling a contentious topic as the venue and schedule for 2025 Champions Trophy is still in limbo amid India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan, who are the official hosts of the event.

Meanwhile, Shah has also been invited by the CA and New South Wales (NSW) Cricket for the fifth and final BGT Test, set for January 3, 2025, at the SCG. It remains to be seen how Shah’s current trip will impact that programme.
Not being affiliated to the BCCI anymore, Shah, if he goes onto attend the third Test, would hope for an improved display by India. Speaking of the series, a 10-wicket battering at the hands of Australia at the Adelaide Oval a few days back has left the series poised at 1-1.
