James Anderson confirms involvement with England as consultant until New Zealand tour

England’s recently reitred pacer James Anderson is currently with the team as a bowling consultant for the Test series against Sri Lanka. He tookthe role immediately after calling it a day from his international career after playing his 188th and final Test against the West Indies at Lord’s in July. In a recent conversation, the experienced seamer confirmed his involvement with the team up until the tour to New Zealand in November and December.

“At the minute, I’m due to go to Pakistan and New Zealand in the winter. Nothing concrete after that,” stated Anderson in a chat with Sky Sports.

I’m very new to this, I’m still learning as we go: Anderson

The timeless servant of English cricket also candidly admitted that he is still imbibing the nuances of coaching since he is new to it. He stated that it is upon the team management to decide how he has fared in the role which he had no prior experience in. Despite the vast experience Anderson possesses, he humbly admitted that he is exploring the coaching role and wants to learn more about the nitty-gritty of it.

“I’m very new to this, I’m still learning as we go. It’s partly me trying to figure out if this is where I want to go with the next stage of my career and also for them to figure out if I’m any good at it as well,” added Anderson.

As for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, England find themselves placed comfortably at 221/3 after 44.1 at the end of Day 1 of the third Test at the Kennington Oval. The remaining overs could be bowled on the opening day due to bad light.
