Jahanara Alam and Rumana Ahmed dropped from Bangladesh squad for home series against India

The veteran cricketers, Jahanara Alam and Rumana Ahmed have been excluded from the preliminary squad of the Bangladesh women’s national team for the upcoming home series against India next month. However, all-rounder Salma Khatun has made a comeback to the side after being axed from the previous Sri Lanka series. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the 20-member squad on Monday, June 26.

 

Bangladesh and India will lock horns in a three-match T20I series and an ODI series of as many games starting from July 09. All three matches of the T20I series will be played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on July 09, 11 and 13 respectively. The three-match ODI series will also take place at the same venue from Sunday, July 16 and the remaining two games will be played on July 19 and July 22 respectively. The ODI series will also be a part of the ICC Women’s Championship.

 

The newly appointed selectors, Sazzad Ahmed Shipon and Sajal Chowdhury decided to drop Jahanara following the right-arm seamer’s below-par show in the last Sri Lanka series. Rumana on the other hand also failed to impress and was dropped from the last Sri Lanka series.

 

Alam has played 52 ODIs for Bangladesh and picked 48 wickets at an average of 30.39 and an economy of 4.26. Furthermore, she has 57 wickets to her name from 78 T20Is at an average of 23.31. On the other hand, Rumana has played 50 ODIs and scored 963 runs and has picked 50 wickets. The spin all-rounder has also represented her country in 84 T20Is where she has scored 854 runs and picked 75 wickets.
