Rohit Sharma has been the centre of attention as India take on South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29. The India captain has managed to steer the team to the penultimate clash unbeaten throughout the tournament. Moreover, after a series of low scores, he has found his rhythm, notching up back-to-back half-centuries in the lead-up to the grand finale.
Rohit’s man management has been applauded by a good lot of cricket pundits, and he has marshalled his resources well throughout the tournament. The same was evident when the team defended a low score of 119 against Pakistan, and the Men in Blue’s skipper rotated his bowlers exceptionally. South African spinner, Keshav Maharaj has also lauded the batter’s fearless approach and admitted that he is a big fan of the star India batter.
“I have always been a huge fan of Rohit Sharma. From a batting perspective, he is fearless. From a leadership perspective, you can see he read the game very well. He finds a way to throw everyone in together and making everyone feel comfortable. But I also feel, his tactfulness on the field to approach each character and bring out the best in them is something that stands out for me,” Maharaj told Star Sports.
Rohit does play on your ego a lot: Klaasen
Heinrich Klaasen is termed as a white ball maverick owing to his destructive approach while batting. As the Proteas take on India in the final, Klaasen hoped not to witness a Rohit special and commended the cricketing brain of the 36-year-old. It is worth noting that the right-handed batter is the only cricketer alongside Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan to have featured in every T20 World Cup edition so far.
“I think he has got an unbelievable cricket brain. Very gutsy. He makes a lot of brave calls as a captain. He does play on your ego a lot. I’d like to have a conversation about how he thinks. He is a special cricketer. When he is in form, there’s not a lot of bowlers who can bowl at him. Hopefully he won’t be in form against us (in the final.),” said Klaasen.
